aimless meanderings and random thoughts

Found out today that I didn't get one of the scholarships I applied for. It was the big one, too, which makes the rejection suck even more.

Oh well, at least there are loans.

Crud.

I took a medical specialty aptitude test the other day. The test asked questions like "are you a 'doer' or a 'thinker'?, and came up with a ranking list of specialties that suit the test taker's personality.

My results were:

1 emergency med 49 points
2 radiology 46 points
3 general surgery 45 points
4 pulmonology 45 points
5 neurosurgery 44 points
6 anesthesiology 44 points
7 ophthalmology 44 points
8 otolaryngology 44 points
9 urology 44 points
10 thoracic surgery 43 points

This is interesting, because these are all specialties I have been pondering.
But who knows, maybe this is all the result of preconceptions I had when taking the test.
It was fun, and it's food for thought, anyway.

Check this out, it's great! (As long as you're not a fan of the Bush)

Oxymoron: "Hamas may radicalize..." Here's the article.

I spent part of the weekend reading up on human development. There have been some very interesting advances in this field recently, specifically those that relate to in-vitro fertilization. This is a field I could really get interested in, I think.
We'll have to see how I like Human Development this fall, but what a cool field.

Just did some more reading on the schedule I will have in med school. I'm getting super excited. There are days I can't wait for August to get here. However, there are also times I'm just nervous as hell about it too.

You knew it was only a matter of time.

The kayaking season officially starts for me today. I'm going to take my boat out, I just don't know where yet.
I just need to get outside a bit.

I was doing some reading online today, and came across a story on yesterday’s killings in Falluja, Iraq. In this story, there was a phrase "U.S. Governor of Iraq Paul Bremmer...”
I find this phrase disturbing. I'm reminded of colonial governors and imperial powers of centuries past.
Not something the U.S. should be doing. I feel it goes against everything we have stood for as a country since our nation’s birth.
The Bush administration is wrong, and must be voted out of office before they irreparably damage the reputation of the United States of America.
