Oops

I really thought it would be so much easier to update now that I have a "regular" schedule.

The sad reality is I'm busier than I ever thought possible. It feels like some days I can barely find time to eat, let alone write things that may or may not get read by anyone.

I also find myself more or less ignoting my friends, and worse, my family. This is not a position I enjoy being in. Please understand that I think of you all often. I just can't seem to find much of a break in my schedule these days.

Anyway, it's time for bed, so I can get up and do it all over again.

Weekends are good, until they end.

This weekend was a much needed break for me. Although I did end up studying quite a bit, I also found some time to unwind, which was good.
Enough time online...
Back to biochem now.

Days go by

It's amazing what a few extra free hours in the afternoon can do. I feel as if I have the time to get a handle on the studying I need to do. With luck, I'll get it done and have a free evening.

Today's Get Fuzzy is particularly hilarious , too.

Wow

I had my first gross anatomy lab today, and that's all I can say about it. What a privilege, to do something like this. I actually made an incision into a human body. A deceased one, but a human nonetheless. It was amazing and humbling.
Overall, it turned out to be a pretty good day. I went into today feeling overwhelmed, and left it feeling refreshed and exhilarated.

Mo Money, Mo Money, Mo Money

I have to meet with the financial aid people today. I hope they give me lots of money. I could sure use it.
Seriously.

Otherwise, I have already been subjecting myself to obscene amounts of studying.
Necessary?
I'm not sure yet.
I think I'll have to wait until the first exams are finished to find that out.

But knowing how I get, I'm sure to be putting in way more time than necessary in hopes of gleaning out that final detail that will help me to get a better grade.

And maybe someday it will help me to better care for a patient too.
Someday.

Free Stuff Already

Today was the first official day of class, and we were already schmoozed by a drug company. They bought lunch for everyone, which was sweet. I don't think pizza hut for 204 people is cheap, either. Nice of 'em.

Anyway, back to class for me. I have a full afternoon of anatomy ahead of me.

Voicemail sucks!

Today was easy, just did a CPR recertification. No big deal.

I then proceded to spend the rest of the day lost in the labrynth that is voicemail. Shunted from one operator to another secretary to another person and back again.
All for one little shot I need to get.

Other than that, it was another pleasant August day. Please note the sarcastic tone of my typing. This weather sucks just about as much as voicemail.

Zoos are fun and educational!!

Today was another great day of information sessions and tours. Mostly the same type of stuff.
I made a crucial discovery today in the cafeteria. The coffee is awful. Cheap, but awful. I'll have to search out a better source of caffeine.

This afternoon we went to the zoo. I haven't been there in quite a while, but it was still pretty fun. It was mostly a good opportunity to meet some more people. The entering class seems to be filled with a lot of really talented and interesting people.

I also continue to be impressed with the faculty and staff. They are really trying hard to make the transition into medical school as painless as possible.

Tonight, ComedySportz. Should make for a nice break in the week.

And so it goes

Today was another step towards actually starting class. We recieved our white coats, which to me signified that I actually am on the path to becoming a physician. For those of you who don't know, a medical students white coat is short, to just about the waist only. It is intended to represent the fact that I do not yet have the knowledge of a physician, who wears a long (thigh or knee length) coat.
Friday is the official ceremony presenting the coats to us. Now I just have to get it ironed.
Anyway, I ramble. Time for bed.

Beginnings

Today I started my journey towards becoming a physician. Nothing too exciting happened today. It was mostly a welcome-fest from the top faculty. There were also a bunch of presentations on things like financial aid (ouch) and life at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

I have to say, I was VERY impressed with everything at the college, and today has started to reinforce my decision to become a doctor.

Endings

Friday was my last day as a Firefighter. The day itself was rather run of the mill. Nothing special happened as far as emergencies go, however I spent the majority of the day soaking wet thanks to the brothers. It's okay though, they were awful wet too.

I ended my career with mixed feelings. Part of me is very excited to take the next steps in my life. I can't help feeling regret about leaving the job and my friends behind. I think leaving the fire department was one of the most difficult things I've ever done. Imagine leaving a place where you: 1) love to go to work 2) work with the best friends you've ever had, and 3) do a job you love doing.

I will never forget all of the great experiences I had there, and I know I will always turn my head and think of them whenever I hear the wail of sirens in the distance.

Plus, riding on big red trucks is about one of the coolest things in the world.
