Last night I was on a call with a six year old who suffers from cardiomyopathy. I was stuck by how brave this kid was, considering that fact that he has had such poor health for the better part of his short life. I'm usually emotionally insulated from my patients on calls, but my heart really went out to him. It is refreshing to actually care for a patient who has a legitimate emergency, rather than the derelicts we sometimes see. Patients like this are the reason I'm going into medicine, and I hope I can live up to my obligation to provide the best care that I can for them.
In other news:
Today was the first truly nice day of the spring, if you ask me. The temps were a balmy 60 degrees F, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I'm looking forward to more nice days to come as we move toward the summer. I thought about taking the kayak out, but I really didn't get that motivated. Probably next week.
I've really been trying to enjoy my free time as much as possible lately, seeing as I will not have much of it in the coming few years. At least not as much as is afforded by my current schedule as a firefighter.
