aimless meanderings and random thoughts

Krissy and I are back from a seven day cruise in the Caribbean. We made several ports of call, including St. Thomas, Antigua, St. Lucia, Dominica, and La Romana in the Dominican Republic. They were beautiful places, and we saw sights like this.

We learned several important lessons about going on cruises while on our trip. The first was how NOT to pack.

St. Thomas was our first stop. This is a major duty-free shopping port, and has a vibrant downtown shopping district. After checking that out, we took the tram up to a scenic viewpoint overlooking the harbor.

While on Antigua, we went to a local beach where we sat around and enjoyed the sun, sand and scenery. This picture really doesn't do it justice, you just have to go and check it out for yourself.

St. Lucia found us on a four-wheel "off-road" adventure in the rainforest. The area really lives up to its name; it rained no less than four times during our few hours there. I've never had better pineapple than I tasted at a little roadside stop along the way. Here we are crossing a river in a banana plantation on our way into the rainforest.

During our cruise we met and saw many interesting people. We made some new friends among our dinner companions. Paul and Nikki are a very cool couple from Colorado that we had a chance to hang out with a little bit. Unfortunately I don't have a picture of them. If you're reading this, hi guys.

We also saw what happened when mullets go to the Caribbean. They get braided. Seriously. I saw this guy early in the trip, and spent the next few days looking for him to get a pic to show people how bad this looks.
Now I have nothing against mullets other than they are ugly, but if you're going to wear one, please, please don't do this to it. (I know it's a little tough to see, but look closely)

Our trip was incredible, and we were able to enjoy many, many things. However, my personal favorite was spending time on deck at night, just listening to the wind and sea as we motored along. The sunsets were gorgeous.

For my first cruise, I was impressed. There are a few things I'd do different, but many more I'd do the same. Like eating more than I should. The food was limitless and mostly delicious. I'll just have to be good this week. No problem.
