aimless meanderings and random thoughts

This weekend we are going to High Cliff State Park for a little labor day camping.

I went into a bookstore today while I was waiting for a friend to have his eyes lasered. I ended up sitting down with a Latte and a copy of Al Franken's book. It is pretty funny. He really goes off of some right wing news types. It's pretty clear how he feels about O'Reilly, for example.
Now I really don't have much interest in either the extreme left or the extreme right, per se. So I have to admit that had it not been for Fox News suing Franken over the "Fair and Balanced" trademark, I probably would not have even picked up this book. (Sorry Mr. Franken)
But in the end, I'll probably read the thing now as soon as I finish Kerouac's "the Town and the City" (which by the way is excellent).

Back from Florida with a tan and some bleached hair. It was a great week, especially when you wake up to this view every day.

We just sat on the beach every day and relaxed, which is what we both needed. A very nice break from the everyday grind.
One night there were some cool storms to the north of us, and I got some cool timed exposure shots of them.

Of course, every great trip must come to an end, but we'll be going back soon, I'm sure.

Well, I'm off to Florida. A week on the beach on Amelia Island, yeehaw!!
Maybe I'll finally get a tan this summer.

Common sense tip of the week:

Don't try a u-turn on the interstate. Bad things happen!!!

I would say at least a quarter of the interstate fatalities I've seen personally are because of this.
C'mon folks, it's not just you out there on the road.

Well, I did a google search tonight to see if I was the only one using the name donnyfire. It turns out that I had previously attempted a webpage and had forgotten all about it. So I reclaimed that site, and have updated it to reflect the information contained in this one. I'll probably change it eventually to something else, but for now I already had a ready made page in donnyblog, so what the hell. My other site is here

There has been quite a bit of press surrounding the California governor's recall race. I believe I'm not alone in thinking that this is quite the circus. I mean, seriously. Gary Coleman and Ah-Nold? Oh yeah, and don't forget the stripper candidate, not to mention Larry Flynt.
What a way to run a state. This process just goes to show you how much is wrong with politics in our country today.
Just another reason why I vote independent.

So for the past few months I've been in the process of applying to medical school. I took the MCAT, and did pretty well. I applied online through AMCAS, and that all went smoothly, and was complete well before the deadline.
Now however, I am in the phase of never-ending frustration that comes when events that are very important to me are not in my own control.
My secondary application is in with the Medical College of Wisconsin, and now I'm simply waiting for my letters of recommendation to arrive at MCW so my application can be reviewed.
I guess I'll have to be patient and wait it out, just like everyone else.
